We are in the middle of a 100 F degree weather. Not just one day but a solid week. Yes, I am melting. I am so very appreciative of the fellow who invented air conditioning. Thank you Mr. Willis Carrier. However, my houseplants that spend the summer outside are thriving.
I finished quilting Queen’s Cross, a pattern by Jen Kingwell. So much fun making this quilt and it turned out so very vibant. Not really pleased with my choice of binding fabric once it was sewn on thoughts of possibily changing the binding to a different color.
Working on ideas for a new baby quilt. The baby will be a girl and her name will be Iris. This is my idea board. The bunny is a pattern by McKenna Ryan. I just received it in the mail. So now with the drafting of the irises and the lettering for the name. Fabrics choices are still in the works.
I have my momentum going for Bird by Bird. Had an oops moment when rotary cutting. A poor circle got in the way and is now sporting a flat top. Sorry Karen K. Buckley.
Currently adding ric rack to large swag pieces. Then will be in circle mode. There are 33 tiny circles to be made to surround each swag. Phillipa Naylor recommended using Vlieseline F220 fusible. This product is from the U.K. Here in the states we have Pellon featherweight non woven fusible. I decided I wanted to compare the two and ordered some F220 from England. I am in love. Comparing the two they have pros and cons. The F220 is very expensive compared to Pellon plus the international shipping cost. The F220 is user friendly for tracing where as the little nobbies on the backside of the Pellon make it challenging to trace accurately. All in all I would love to have a bolt of the F220 and may consider that purchase in the future. I did order 5 yards and will use that and then decide. The F220 is a bit denser fabric compared to the Pellon but it is still lightweight.
First swag finished and added to design board. The design is finally taking on the appearance I was hoping to achieve. I was actually thinking what am I doing wrong, it’s not looking how I want it to look. I feel like maybe I’m getting there. Design boards make it too easy to change my mind.
I added a limey green as an accent and really liked it. The problem is I only have a fat quarter and this fabric is probably from the 1990’s when I had decided to make a Baltimore Album quilt. After many searches on the internet I have not been able to find it on any “vintage sites”. Alternatively I searched for lime green prints and found a possibility at Missouri Star. Conveniently enough my sister and I will be visiting MO Star in September. We’ll see what we find. Here is my piece. If anyone out there has any of this LOL “vintage” fabric I would love a fat quarter or 1/2 yard. Vintage, now what does that say about me?
Hope everyone is surviving the heat staying cool. Relief is on the way. Happy stitching everyone.
