Bird by Bird, Machine Quilting, Machine Applique

The draught has broken. We are receiving rain and more blessed rain. Woke this morning to the sound of thunder and rain, a little Bob Seger happening today. I find those sounds so very soothing.

I mentioned to a friend that I was interested in acquiring a few more houseplants particularly spider/airplane plants having discovered there were different varieties. Well, wouldn’t you know when I stopped by her house the next day to drop off some fabric there sitting on her porch were a hanging basket variegated variety and two 4″ pots of the curly variegated airplane plants that were provided by her Aunt destined to go home with me. I repotted the curly variety and hung the basket on my shepherds hook out side and watered it. Now it’s drunk due to the overnight and morning rain. But I’m thinking it has found its happy place.

I found myself having some down time in between quilting quilt tops due to the need to acquire more specific thread for the project so have been moving forward on Bird by Bird. I practiced a couple of different stitches and found my skills lacking so practiced some more until I am comfortable with my results. I also learned about the advantage of stabilizer to get the consistent stitch length while sewing. I spoke with a friend who does machine applique and she does not use stabilize nor does she have an even feed foot on her machine ( mine does not have it either). Hmmmm maybe I need more practice. I have 64 tear drop shapes that have a fussy cut circle added on top. I have been appliquing them. I have 32 completed with 32 left. My plan is to squeeze these in while still finishing the machine quilting projects.

Went to Springfield yesterday to purchase the necessary thread for projects. Ooooh look at those colors. They make me smile.

Back in Springfield again yesterday, was able to get more potting soil to do a little rehoming of plants that are in dire need of more root space. I once had an apartment with radiator heat. My plants were ecstatic. Today they need a humidifier and misting at times.

My Q16 is calling to me to get started on my sister’s quilt top.

Everyone have a blessed day.
