New Year 12 New UFO Projects

Here it is January 2016!  Whooop Whooop!

How can one person have so many unfinished projects.  It’s called procrastination, family obligations, work, and life and illness and greed.  I’m guilty of all.  At one time I thought they were viable excuses now I see them as enabling poor behavior.  As a recovering procrastinator I successfully achieved my 1 year gold star for all the UFO projects I completed in 2015 as well as the projects started and completed that did not end up categorized as an UFO. A very successful year.

My List of UFO’s for 2016:

  1. 3 applique basket blocks
  2. 3 applique basket blocks
  3. 3 applique basket blocks
  4. Sew\Set basket blocks together
  5. Prep Border Applique on basket quilts
  6. Applique the borders for the basket quilt
  7. Design border for Carol’s quilt
  8. Cut out & piece “big jake” quilt
  9. Piece cats quilt
  10. Cut out pickle dish
  11. country hearts quilt by Possibilites cutt out, piece & applique
  12. Cat nap – cut out, piece & applique

Now that that has been decided upon.  The number out of the hat for UFO club is # 6.  So had to exchange # 1 for # 6 since can’t do borders until blocks are done. Not sure I have enough fabric for borders until all blocks are pieced.  Borders  just might have to be a different fabric.   Sometimes you just have to rearrange things to make them work.

Now for my ocd list for January 2016 –

  1. Saturday Sampler 2016 Block (picked this up today 1/2/16)
  2. Ginger Baby Quilt pieced & quilted by me.  I have already gotten it pieced.  Trying to build up courage to machine quilt it.  I mean that’s one of the reasons I wanted my dream Bernina machine.  Good practice of no procrastination just get going on it and get it done.  🙂
  3. UFO Assignment for 1 month.  Which turns out to be 3 appliqued basket blocks.  This is a Pat Cox pattern I had started in 1995.  I may not even have enough fabric set back for this quilt so it is really going to be challenging making sure it all coordinates.
  4. Storytellers BOM pieced # 5.
  5. Block 2 of A Boy and A Girl quilt prepped.
  6. Princess Quilt Castle Block prepped and appliqued.
  7. Pink and green quilt next section started.
  8. Applique Block 1 of A boy and A Girl quilt working on today.

This is ambitious but am enjoying the challenge.

Went to Saturday Sampler today at Merrily We Quilt Along Quilt Shop in Springfield, MO.  Saw some beautiful quilts others have made.  I delivered 4 quilt tops to Vickie Clancy to quilt for me.  I am pleased that all of the backings for the quilts came from my stash.  Some fabrics I find I love so much that it is difficult to finally use.  I am challenging myself to do just that.  Use it!

On display at the quilt shop was the trunk show for Little House on the Prairie.  Beautiful quilts and great use of fabrics. Too bad  my focus is on finishing projects already started.  I could easily let greed get in the way and think I can squeeze in just one more project.  Yes, I myself am a work in progress.

Happy New Year Everyone.  My wish for you is health, happiness and  many finished quilts!

About Sissy Malone

I've been actively sewing since Jr. High School. But specifically drawn to quilting since I was 17/18 years old. My grandmother was a quilter and I became fascinated with the process. I fell in love (awestruck) is a better word viewing applique quilts by Gladys Rashka at the Minnesota State Fair in the 70's. A love affair was born of applique quilts. I still machine piece, but am always drawn to applique. I took classes learning different techniques and also traveled to California and studied a whole week at Asilomar with Elly Sienkiewicz. Quilting is my passion. I am always open to learning a new technique but still rely on handwork. View all posts by Sissy Malone
